The time between Thanksgiving and Winter Break is a tricky time to teach. It can be difficult to keep students’ minds on learning in December! Students will be engaged and excited if you take advantage of the excitement for the season. Here are some activities that will have your students learning right up to Winter Break.
All of the activities I am going to share with you are very low prep so you can just print and go during this busy season.
1. Christmas Math While I still teach our math curriculum most of the month, I love to use holiday-themed work to change it up and keep my students motivated. This resource has more than enough activities for you to use all month long.
2. Christmas Activities This resource contains fun activities and crafts to celebrate the holidays. I love to use these at the end of the day during the month of December after we have worked hard all day.
3. Gingerbread Activities This is a great month to compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in stories. I love to use gingerbread books to teach this standard. Who doesn’t love all the different versions of The Gingerbread Man? First graders love The Gingerbread Girl, The Ninjabread Man, The Gingerbread Cowboy, Gingerbread Pirates, The Musabi Man, and The Gingerbread Baby.
4. Editable Math and Language Arts Winter Scoot – Scoot is a way to reinforce learning, practice skills and get children moving! What I love the most about this resource is that you can edit it to meet your needs. Children search for the task cards around the room and write answers on their recording sheet.
5. Holidays Around the World I can’t think of a better way to be festive than learning about Holidays around the world. This resource is an escape room which makes it even more engaging! Students learn about about the country and complete a challenge to move onto the next country. Countries included are Mexico, France, England, Russia, Germany, Israel, Sweden, and the United States.
