Modalities vary so students stay highly engaged. With this, students will have rigorous work to do once they have completed assignments!
I make this pack into a booklet and give it to each of my students. When they finish their work, they know to pull this out and continue working. It’s super easy!
VARIETY OF USES FOR DIFFERENTIATION
This pack could be used in a variety of ways – class-wide, individual, homework, assessment, guided reading or math groups, or intervention. You may choose to utilize this product as a packet or use each page on its own. If you packet this product, it would serve as meaningful work for students to complete when they are finished and are waiting for the rest of the class to do so.

Math
1.O.A.1.A Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
1.O.A.1.B Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
1.O.A.3.B Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract.
1.O.A.5.C Relate counting to addition and subtraction.
1.O.A.6.C Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies as listed above in 1.O.A.1.B.
1.O.A.7.D Understand the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false.
1.O.A.8.D Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers.
1.N.B.T.3.B Compare two two-digit numbers based on meanings of the tens and ones digits, recording the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, and <.
1.N.B.T.5.C Given a two-digit number, mentally find 10 more or 10 less than the number, without having to count; explain the reasoning used.
1.M.D.1.A Order three objects by length; compare the lengths of two objects indirectly by using a third object.
1.M.D.3.B Tell and write time in hours and half-hours using analog and digital clocks.
1.M.D.4.C Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three categories; ask and answer questions about the total number of data points, how many in each category, and how many more or less are in one category than in another.
1.G.2.A Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes (cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape.
1.G.3.A Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, fourths, and quarters, and use the phrases half of, fourth of, and quarter of. Describe the whole as two of, or four of the shares. Understand for these examples that decomposing into more equal shares creates smaller shares.
THIS PRODUCT HAS MULTIPLE USES
1. Intervention- For students who need that extra boost, this would be a great opportunity to teach and practice many math and literacy skills. This is a wonderful way to build confidence with students.
2. Early Finishers – You could use this product as a packet for children to work on independently until everyone is done. Rigor Work for Early Finishers contains meaningful, rigorous, engaging activities that assure students are working on important skills needed in first grade instead of busy work.
3. Homework or Independent Work During Literacy Centers, Daily Five, or Math Centers – Once a skill is taught, students should be able to do these sheets independently with little or no instruction.
4. Guided Reading or Focus Groups – These activities are perfect for teaching or re-teaching a specific skill in a small group setting.
5. Guided Math – Especially if you have limited time, these activities are perfect for guided math groups. You can focus on a strategy, such as using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
