There are four weeks worth of lesson plans. The lesson plans were carefully crafted to include objectives, reading strategies, vocabulary, comprehension strategies for fiction and nonfiction, craftivities, and anchor charts. This month’s focus is Determining Importance in fiction, which will be assessed the 4th week. Students also compare and contrast similar books, discuss the author’s purpose, determine importance, learn about paraphrasing, practice retell, make connections and inferences. The character education focus is volunteering.
Original nonfiction and fiction texts are included with this unit. The nonfiction texts include stunning photographs and nonfiction text features such as labels, captions, titles, maps, diagrams, table of contents, etc.
