One of my favorite books is Have You Filled a Buck

One of my favorite books is Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud. Students can identify with it. It makes sense to them. It is a great way to teach kindness and empathy. I read it at the beginning of the year and students use bucket filler and bucket dipper all year. Do you read this book at the beginning of the year?

If we want children to be the best students they can be, we have got to teach them how. That includes managing their bodies, emotions, communication, actions, etc.
Do you teach SEL in your classroom? I do, and it’s a BIG focus in my first grade classroom for the first few months. It’s time well spent and we reap the benefits for the rest of the year.
